I think of gel batteries as deep cycle. Perhaps the original leaking battery is just a bad one. Try a new conventional battery. I also buy batteries from DEKA. They are not too far away and their discounted 'blem' batteries are a good buy. Lately I have tried Wal-Mart batteries for the last year and they have been fine. No leaks or corrosion around the terminals. The Wal-Mart price is just about the same as the DEKA blem price.

I bought a used Kubota L4310HST. This tractor does not have a mid-pto. To get the FEL off you need to get off the tractor and pull 4 pins, then get back on and use the FEL hydraulics to "disconnect" it from the tractor. Back the tractor up a foot or so then get back off the tractor to diconnect 3 hydraulic lines. Then get back on the tractor to drive off. It takes me about 10 minutes to do it. My neighbor also has a Kubota and can do it in about 5 minutes.
I bought a Land Pride 7 ft rear finish mower to mow several acres where the hay is not grown. I was used to a MMM from previous tractors. The rear mower at first was hard to use - especially trimming up next to a fence, etc. The biggest difference was that when I turn - the mower moves in the opposite direction. After using it for about 1 month now it has become very easy to use and a big benefit for me is that I can lift the mower up and back over an area that cannot be cut or driven over due to rocks, terrain, etc.

Does anyone have a used service manual for a Kubota L4310 HST? The dealer just quoted me $125. It would be worth it if I was going to do some major repair work but right now am just interested in reading it to understand how everything works and is put together.

I just bought the Chevron "Synthetic" THF for my Kubota L4310HST. Hopefully will put it in soon as it's time to replace both filter and fluid. Price is $67/5 gallons. It seems appropriate that the oil is colored orange.

The local Kubota dealer has a nifty 'tire dolly' to remove/mount tires on a tractor. Does anyone know if these dollies are available and affordable? What about making a dolly myself? Safety when working with these heavy filled rear tires is a must.

I was just looking at a 1997 L2900, 4 speed manual trans w/Hi/lo, w/woods FEL and backhoe (don't know model #). It has 1400 hrs and is in good condition.
He is/was asking $17,500 and has been for sale for 2 months. I'm in Central NJ. It has 2 problems that I noticed (the seller may or may not be aware of these problems). The 3rd gear synchro is shot and the engine oil is at least one qt. overfilled. Don't know if the extra oil could be coming from a bad seal in the hydraulic pumps.

Does anyone have any experience using a haybine, hay rake, and baler with a compact? I will be taking over the hay on 10 acres of my property. I was just about to purchase a Kubota L3010. I can buy the retiring farmer's hay equipment for a good price. My main concern is with the baler. It is a NH 310 w/kicker. I want to make sure that the tractor has enough power to run the equipment safely. PTO HP requirements are hard to come by on old used hay equipment although he thinks that the baler needs 30 PTO HP. I have seen other balers in the local paper for sale such as JD 14T, JD 24T, NH 65, NH 268. They are all smaller balers but don't know if they have a kicker. My hay is 90% Orchard grass and the land almost flat with a gentle slope.

Am looking at a used L295DT. 1980 model year. Checks out to be in very good condition with a real looking 800 hours but is hard to start even after leaving glow plugs on for a couple of minutes. Starts great when warm. Is this normal for this engine? No other visible problems with engine. No obvious oil burning. No water in oil. No oil in water, etc. Any suggestions?

I drove past a 1980 30HP 4WD Kubota L295DT yesterday. The price on the machine was $7500. It has 800 hours on it and also has a non-Kubota loader that is beat to death. My guess is that the loader was put on recently by the current (second) owner. The tractor looked to be in very good original condition. Does anyone have anymore details on this model tractor? Does the price seem reasonable?
